Teekays Group celebrated the World Environment Day
Teekays Group observed the World Environment Day on June 5th in Malur and Anantapur by organizing a program of planting eucalyptus clones. This program was attended by the authorities, farmers, school children and a NGO.
As a prelude to WED, Teekays team along with its plantation consultant Mr. CG Singh and Greenom Agrowealth MD Mr. Seshagiri Rao had conducted a seminar at the Ecology Center of Rural Development Trust (RDT), Anantapur on June 4th 2008.
The Universe was created with all balances to sustain for millions of light years. Any intervention has a deleterious affect on the planets. The human inventions and discoveries lead to the revolutionary changes in the living styles. The population explosion in several less developed countries put pressure on the Earth’s potential to regenerate and recuperate in the natural way. One major concern is depletion of forest due to huge demand for wood and wooden products.
Trees are considered as natural sinks for the green house gases like carbon dioxide and methane. The rapid industrialization and huge vehicular pollution is emitting these gases in huge quantities which is leading to global warming. Trees, considered as carbon banks could hold down carbon dioxide emissions for few decades and provide the time to develop alternate mechanism to combat emission of green house gases.
It is in this context that Teekays Group on World Environment Day gave special focus to growing trees. The day was started with School children planting the eucalyptus saplings in the Peravali Zilla Parishad School. In the afternoon WED was organized at Thungathuthi village under the initiative of CERA an active NGO organization participated by the Zilla Parishad Chairperson Mrs. Kavitha and hundreds of villagers. In the evening, farmers meets were organized with video presentation in 2 more villages. WED was celebrated by Teekays team at Malur by organizing planting of eucalyptus saplings at St. Joseph’s School by the School students.
